Saying goodbye to our furry companion is always a difficult step to take. When the animal we know no longer has a good quality of life or lives with a condition that makes them suffer, euthanasia can be seen as the last act of love we can offer them.
If the decision is difficult to make, don’t hesitate to contact our team for guidance. When the time comes, you can contact the clinic to make an appointment for your pet’s euthanasia.
How does the euthanasia procedure work?
You can choose whether or not to be present until the very end of the procedure.
The first step is to sedate your pet to reduce stress and pain. Once the animal is asleep (between 10 and 20 minutes), the veterinarian will give the terminal injection into a vein. The effect is very quick (a few seconds). The vet will confirm death by auscultating the animal to ensure that the heart is no longer beating.
You can then spend as much time as you like with your pet in the room before leaving.
There are 3 options for disposing of your pet:
- Group cremation of your pet at a specialized cremation company (Crémation Animaux RB);
- Individual cremation (to recover ashes in the urn of your choice) at Crémation Animaux RB (additional charge);
- Recovery of the body for burial at home (please check your city’s regulations).
You can also request a paw print or hair trim from our personnel.
Whether or not you attend your pet’s euthanasia, you can rest assured that the clinic team will act with sensitivity and empathy to ensure your pet’s departure is a gentle and respectful one.
